SUMMARY

"Kabig, the destiny of a garment of strikes" traces the history of the kabig from its beginnings to the present day. Born in Finistère, on the small and isolated territory, the kabig was the working costume of the peasant sailors, the goémoniers. Evoked by some artists in the 1840s, the costume designers of the Paris Opera were inspired to create the costumes of the actors. In Brittany, the bourgeoisie discovered it and wore it when returning from vacations, thus participating in its diffusion. This workwear gradually became a modern garment. Its 128 pages punctuated with unpublished archives: old Le Minor advertisements, engravings from the 19th century, designers' drawings, posters, personal photos, etc. allow a better immersion in this epic.
