LE MINOR MARINIÈRE : AUTHENTIC MARINIÈRE MADE IN FRANCE

The Breton marinière, made at the Le Minor factory in Brittany, in a thick, rustic knitted fabric. Le Minor imagines and reinvents the emblematic Breton piece.

MADE IN FRANCE MARINIÈRE MADE IN BRITTANY

If the first job of the Manufacture de Bonneterie Lorientaise (which became Le Minor in 1982) was to manufacture marine sweaters for Breton fishermen, the company diversified very early on to offer its customers cotton sailors' jackets.

This typically French product, which had been brought up to date in 1920 by Coco Chanel and the success of the films Breathless or The Beach Hotel, will contribute to anchor this garment in the popular unconscious and especially in the wardrobe of everyone.

The Manufacture de Bonneterie Lorientaise is no exception to the rule and launches in the late 70s a small production line dedicated to the sailor in a corner of the factory. At the beginning, the sailors' shirts are made in a thick and rustic fabric knitted on the spot: the thread is a raw cotton and the fabric is not even softened before the confection!

As the years went by, the cotton became softer, more refined and brighter with multiple colors and stripes, until it became the best-selling product of Le Minor in France, especially for export, in the 2000s. Le Minor's sailors even become a luxury product in Japan!

FOLLOW US IN THE DIFFERENT STEPS OF THE CREATION OF THE MADE IN FRANCE SAILOR'S JACKET, IN OUR FACTORY IN GUIDEL.

From a cotton spun in the Vosges, all the steps of the manufacturing of our sailors' shirts are made in our workshop, in Guidel near Lorient:

Knitting of the thread to give the striped jersey so known, in 2 thicknesses, thick or fine stitch (we speak about "gauge", and at Le Minor, the jersey is made in 20 gauge or 14 gauge. The lower the number, the thicker the knit!);

Hand-cutting to make different models of our sailors' shirts (men's, women's, children's shirts, but also dresses and accessories);

Making of the sailors' shirts to give them the necessary degree of finishing to make a top-of-the-range product that will last through the years

With its particular "hand", our rustic sailor's shirt has a very beautiful fall. Le Minor has succeeded in creating a high quality product with all the ingredients of the traditional marinière.
Our high quality, sturdy mariners will last for more than 10 years in all your daily adventures.
