Our sailor sweater in virgin wool
Created in the workshops of Le Minor hosiery, which have been steeped in history for over 100 years, this timeless knit is an ode to the sea, the oceans and its travellers. A staple in our collections, our sailor jumper has remained unchanged since its creation, with its long, close-fitting cut. It's a must-have for every fashion-conscious woman.
This sailor's knit, with its narrow cut and fairly long body, was originally designed to be worn very close to the body, to keep sailors warm without interfering with their manoeuvres on the boat. That's why it's traditionally called the ‘sock jumper’: it's tight-fitting, and has been worn that way for all these years. Although the button placket originated in Scotland, it's a Breton tradition that deserves to be embraced. It comes from the oldest hosiery factory in Brittany still in business: the Le Minor hosiery workshop, founded in 1922. If you're not sure what size to order, go down a size. If you don't feel comfortable with this close-fitting, form-fitting knit, try one of our navy jumpers, which are fuller and more comfortable: Fisherman, Newport... or a fine, supple model in plain merino.
Creation of our virgin wool sailor sweater
The sailor sweater has been Le Minor's signature product for 100 years, and our brand offers several variations of sailor sweaters to suit every taste and body type, as well as every season. This version of the blue roy sailor sweater features: a classic, straight cut; a dry, virgin wool composition; a knitted collar. Other versions of our sweaters are also available in our online store, in fuller, thinner versions and a multiplicity of colors, but always made in our own workshops, from A to Z, in Brittany.
