Our virgin wool sailor sweater
A true Le Minor classic, this sailor jumper is knitted like the original model we've been making since 1922 for Brittany's fishermen. It's been designed here with a play of bright colours - navy and red stripes - a perfect dose of vitamins for getting up at dawn to admire the sunrise. Iconic and timeless, this model has remained unchanged for over 100 years - long cut, worn close to the body, knitted in a tight knit from virgin wool yarn - and is THE garment of our collections.
This marine knit was originally designed to be worn close to the body, to keep sailors warm without getting in the way when manoeuvring a boat. It was then, and still is today, known as the ‘sock jumper’, because it is close-fitting and has been worn close-fitting for several decades. The Le Minor hosiery workshop began production in 1922, and the meticulous detailing of this timeless knit makes it well worth getting to grips with the striped navy jumper, which is made entirely in integrated Breton workshops. If you're hesitating between two sizes, choose the larger one. If you're not comfortable with a slim fit, we recommend you choose a more comfortable navy jumper from our range: Newport jumper, fisherman jumper, or a remarkably fine and soft model: the merino wool navy jumper.
Creation of our virgin wool sailor sweater
This genuine virgin wool sailor sweater is entirely made in Brittany, following the same steps of confections as in the past. It is knitted in a tight stitch, from a virgin wool yarn. Its collar is buttoned up to guarantee a greater solidity. In the past, this placket made it easier for sailors to put on this sweater worn close to the body.
