Be careful, this traditional sweater is worn very close to the body: it's tight-fitting. Designed not to interfere with sailors' maneuvers, it has retained this close-fitting cut for 100 years. If you prefer a loose fit, opt for a ribbed sailor's sweater (Newport, fisherman's sweater...). Gentlemen, take a size larger than your usual size. See our size chart for more information.

Care instructions :
- Our knitwear is machine-washable: we recommend a cold wool cycle (or 20°C maximum) and a maximum spin speed of 600 rpm.
- However, to make your knitwear last as long as possible, hand-washing is recommended.
- Do not use detergents
- Dry flat, do not tumble dry.
- Iron at 110°C maximum
- Professional care with normal water cycle

Our virgin wool sailor sweater

Le Minor's sailor sweater, a “real sailor sweater” for men, has been the success story of our Breton hosiery. An emblematic and timeless garment, the construction of our sailor sweater has remained the same for almost 100 years - long, close-fitting cut - and is an absolute classic in men's wardrobes: it's the garment every man should have in his wardrobe.

Here, it's available in an offwhite base, with a set of classic “placed” navy stripes: the plain space at the top of the body is a tribute to the design formed by the stripes on the cotton marinières of the French Navy, for which Le Minor was a supplier for over 40 years.

This historic garment is made entirely in Guidel, in the region's oldest workshops still in operation. If you're hesitating between two sizes, choose the larger one. If you prefer a loose fit, opt for our Newport and Pêcheur models. Our offwhite merino wool sailor sweater, a more comfortable alternative, is a treasure trove of softness.

Creation of our virgin wool sailor sweater

Like all the clothes offered for sale by Le Minor, this real ecru/navy navy sweater is entirely made in the brand's Morbihan workshops, from knitting to finishing. The virgin wool used to make this sweater is spun and dyed in Switzerland. Minor continues to work with the French Navy's wool supplier, which produces a strong and therefore durable wool yarn. From the selection of a quality fiber, the manufacturing of this real sailor's knitwear follows precise manufacturing steps in our workshops: knitting on rectilinear knitting machines with a tightening allowing to guarantee Le Minor's Hand; steaming of the wool to soften and shrink it; hand cutting into shape; assembly of the sweater following several sewing steps. All these steps guarantee the specificities of the Le Minor sweater: a particular hand and finishes.
