Our sailor sweater in virgin wool
The ‘real sailor jumper’ for men has been the success story of our Breton hosiery company, which has been in business for almost 100 years. An emblematic model that's always in fashion, our sailor jumper has been made in the same way since it first appeared in our wardrobes - long cut and close to the body - and is THE absolute classic jumper, the one every man must have in his wardrobe.
Originally designed to be worn close to the body to keep sailors warm, without getting in the way when manoeuvring their boats, this sailor's knit is available in the popular red. That's why it was and still is known as the ‘sock jumper’ - it's tight-fitting and worn that way - and has been for over 100 years. If you're hesitating between two sizes, take the larger one. If you're not comfortable with a tight fit, opt for our looser navy jumpers such as the Newport and Fisherman models, or our thinner, softer jumper in plain merino.
Creation of our virgin wool sailor sweater
The pure wool yarn comes from a traditional spinner in Europe, and the manufacturing steps of the sweater are invariable since many years. Knitting on 7 gauge flatbed looms, steaming, cutting and sewing. The Le Minor recipe gives the sweater a special hand, which connoisseurs appreciate because it is above the rest. The finishing details add a touch of real Breton knitting for men by Le Minor: a solidly sewn collar in 2 steps, a buttoning in the collar rather high, which tends towards the chimney collar, and stitches at each end, to ensure the solidity of the breton sweater.
